Eat for Beauty

If you didn’t know, The Beauty Geek is an avid gardener and a vegetarian. The two go together well when it comes time to plant a vegetable garden. I also garden just for the beauty of the flowers and foliage. Gardening improves your health, and therefore your beauty, by providing you with plenty of exercise, fresh & nutritious veggies, and flowers to lift your mood. If you’re a gardener or looking to start a garden, I’d like to recommend one of my favorite places to buy seeds, plants and supplies — Park Seed Company. Here is a picture of a Butterfly Rose I purchased from their nursery almost 8 years ago. It was just a little 12″ twig when I bought it. Now it’s over 6 feet tall and 7 feet wide!

My mom, a Master Gardener, has visited their nursery, gardens and greenhouses in Greenwood, SC, and reports that it is a beautiful, well-managed location. Everything I’ve ordered from them over the last 20 years has been top quality. Visit their Web site and order some vegetable seeds so you can start gardening and eating for beauty!

Over-Exposed!

If you manage to get a sunburn, even after all The Beauty Geek’s pleas to slather up with sunscreen, you’ll probably be feeling pretty uncomfortable and looking for some relief. Well, even I have had some pretty bad sunburns over the years. These are the products I’ve personally used to relieve the discomfort.

My all-time favorite is Solarcaine Aloe Extra Burn Relief Gel. This little bottle of green gel is a staple in my medicine cabinet. Not only does it relieve sunburns, it’s great on bug bites and minor burns you might get cooking it up in the kitchen.

A cool, soothing soak in the tub is also recommended for sunburns. Aveeno’s Soothing Bath Treatment is the perfect addition to help wash away the red of the burn.

Finally, since sunburns seriously dry out the skin, you’ll want to butter yourself up with a super rich moisturizer. I love the smell of Tree Hut’s Brazilian Nut Shea Body Butter. Shea butter is one of the finest natural moisturizers you can get.

So, put on your sunscreen, go out and enjoy yourself, and even if you find yourself over-exposed, you’ll have the products to keep you feeling cool.
